Hero was founded 1886 by Gustav Henckell and Gustav Zeiler in Lenzburg. The pair struck upon the idea of making fruit and vegetables last as long as possible without sacrificing any of the flavour. After Gustav Zeiler´s death in 1889 the firm was renamed Henckell and Roth after the owners of that time. The name was subsequently shortened to Hero using the first two letters of each owner´s last name. Soon after the turn of the century the Lenzburg-based company acquired the Frauenfeld jam factory, the oldest in Switzerland. A short time later Hero acquired sites in Breda in Holland and Alcantarilla in Spain. In 1995 Hero was bought by Schwartau International, Germany.
In Austria Hero is represented by Hero-Roco, a well established tomato paste. Hero-Roco is 3-fold concentrated and of very high quality.
